I finished my thesis!  Yay!

I will still probably have a few minor revisions to make, and still have to write my abstract... and obviously defend it on June 6, but STILL!

*breathes huge sigh of relief*

Hey all,

I'm still looking for a way to automatically cross-post from my personal blog, but who knows when I'll actually get that done. :)

It's been a fantastic year, really, and I'm beside myself with excitement about what the new year brings. This year, I will:
  1. Graduate with my Masters of Oriental Medicine from NCNM (including finishing my thesis)
  2. Start a clinic with Amanda Barp, LMT
  3. Move several steps closer to home ownership (finally)
  4. Watch my daughter turn 13 and enter the 7th grade (holy crap)
  5. Likely (again, finally) finish my Masters degree thesis in Applied Ethics at Oregon State University
  6. See my main blog (http://deepesthealth.com) double its regular readership to 800
  7. Turn 32
  8. Top last year's all time most awesome garden : tomatoes!  greens!  squash!  onions!  Yessssss!
  9. Finish last year's body/health goals - I'm about 75% there!
  10. Travel somewhere fun!
Those are kind of like resolutions, but really just goals.  When I make 'em, I achieve 'em.  ;)

My new term starts on the 5th, but really things get started tomorrow.  I have a speech to give to the NCNM incoming students (I'm student body President) and a group acupuncture shift in the afternoon.  I'll also be getting a well-deserved treatment for myself, most likely.  I have a day-long class about the Triple Burner (a mysterious and important organ network of Chinese medicine) on Sunday, and then right into it on Monday.  This term, I have a new professor as supervisor - who also happens to be a friend.  It will be interesting to see how our relationship changes with this new facet introduced.

Anyway - wishes for many happy returns for all of my Livejournal friends.

Hey all - this is a crosspost teaser from my personal blog. You can read the rest of it there at Ericgrey.com. I will sometimes do this kind of crossposting thing, because I really post there much more - and in a much more interesting fashion.

I hope everyone is enjoying their variation on December weather. Here in Portland it is cold and raining. We are finally seeing our highly unusual snowpack disappear, although the street in front of my house is still basically impassable without serious work. The weather created lock-down conditions here in Portland, to the extent that my family and I were essentially stuck in/around our house for five days without a break. It was actually wonderful, your mileage may have varied.

This unprecedented free time combined with my recent intellectual development has found me much more interested in posting content to this blog. I guess I feel like I have more things to say that aren't explicitly Chinese medicine related (which would have me posting on Deepest Health : Exploring Classical Chinese Medicine instead).

I've been examining the blog and doing some background maintenance, so you may see a couple of irrelevant posts for testing purposes or see the site look a little wonky. I hope you'll forgive me. This post, in fact, is a kind of test post - only with some content for your reading pleasure. What content, you say? In a narcissistic display, I will share with you my Top 10 Winter Vacation 2008 Highlights!!!

  1. Excellent tea session with Paul Rosenberg (itinerant tea monk of Portland) and two of my favorite people in the world.

  2. Playing numberless games of Munchkin- including the Clerical Errors expansion and the Munchkin Fu version. Playing this game with my family reminded me how much I love them and how perfectly we fit together. We all "get it" and have a great time.

  3. Playing numberless games of Bohnanza, see note on #2.

  4. Read the rest at Ericgrey.com

Today is the last day of Fall term for me. I only had one final this term, and have had to continue my clinic shifts through the week. I'm likely to have two patients today - then no more official treatments until January 2! I'm excited by this, but I will miss my patients! Hopefully, I will be able to treat some friends and family and do some good studying over the break. Most of all, I'm going to rest, rest, rest and spend time with the people I love.

Today, I got to flex my SGA Student Body President powers. I was one of two people deciding the fate of an important scholarship. It was a hard choice to make, but I think we did the right thing.

This is one of those coffee days. It's cold, but not too cold. It's not raining, but it might. My energy is low, but I'm not tired. I don't normally drink coffee, but I could see myself happily overdoing it today. :)

Anyway - here's a journal entry. It's not trying to be anything else. How do you like it? :D

Swiped from kl8n Actually used one of my other journals to generate the images. The sheer number of cheesy Native American-esque pictures, pictures of naked or half-naked women and utterly inspid inspirational posters that came up was really funny. It's fun to guess what interest each photo goes to.

More things at both new blogs: http://www.deepesthealth.com and http://www.wayofwater.typepad.com/eric_grey -- it's fun stuff. Come on over. I think I'll post an excerpt from my latest post sometime soon.

Hey all.

I'm blogging exclusively at my new website at Eric Grey . I'll probably update daily, and it'll be worth reading. I'll still be reading others' blogs through Livejournal, though.

I've also started a site investigating the meaning and content of true Health (including spirituality, environmental ethics, social issues, biology, Chinese medicine and more). I'm trying to write articles that will be informative and useful for people. It's also my way of working out my thesis. You can find it at Deepest Health - it's sparse at this point but should undergo significant growth in the next week.

I hope you'll enjoy either or both.

Gogol Bordello - Illumination

Don't believe them for a moment
For a second, do not believe, my friend
When you are down, them are not coming
With a helping hand
Of course there is no us and them
But them they do not think the same

It's them who do not think the same
It's them who do not think
They never step on spiritual path
They paint their faces so differently from ours
And if you listen closely
That war it never stops
That war it never stops

Read the restCollapse )
Illuminating realization number one:

You are the only light there is
For yourself my friend
